About WIRN-COE (Wadhwani Innovation & Research Network Centre of Excellence)

At IISc Bangalore, the WIRN Centre of Excellence (WIRN-COE) has been set up within the IISc Quantum Technology Initiative (IQTI). WIRN-COE serves as a focal point for advancing translational research in quantum technology. Its primary function is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, promote innovation, and facilitate commercialization by creating connections between academic institutions, industry partners, and incubators.

The position of Director for WIRN-COE requires a seasoned professional with extensive expertise in hardware technology, translational research, and managing innovation processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the center’s activities and ensuring they align with WIRN’s objective of promoting cutting-edge developments in quantum technology.

Key Responsibilities   

 The Director will: 

• Manage and supervise the implementation of research, translation, and innovation initiatives within WIRN’s key areas, ensuring the delivery of high-impact results.
• Develop strategic partnerships with incubators, academic institutions, and industry leaders to accelerate research translation.
• Work closely with the WIRN Program Office to implement mentorship programs, entrepreneurial education, and best practices in research translation.
• Foster a vibrant innovation ecosystem at the IQTI, IISc by organizing events like brainstorming meetups, pitch competitions, and networking forums.
• Represent WIRN-COE in conferences and networking events to enhance visibility and collaboration opportunities.
• Provide effective operational and infrastructural backing, including personnel and laboratory resources, to facilitate the achievement of WIRN-COE’s objectives.
• Monitor and report on WIRN-COE activities, producing quarterly reports detailing financial utilization, staffing, project status, and development plans.

Qualifications & Experience  

• PhD or equivalent experience in Quantum Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in research, technology translation, or innovation management.
• Proven track record in developing research partnerships and securing external funding.
• Strong familiarity with quantum technologies and their commercialization potential.
• Experience working with incubators, startups, and industry partners.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
